They start as strangers, from different states around the country, different backgrounds, cultures and ages. But they share one thing in common: They’ve all experienced the challenge and tragedy of cancer and are either cancer survivors or have a loved one who has been diagnosed with cancer.
After months of extensive training and preparation, they come together on an epic journey and climb to the summit of one of the tallest peaks in the world for breast cancer prevention.
Klean Kanteen™ is proud to support the inspiring women and men who devote almost a year of their lives to participate in the Breast Cancer Fund’s annual Climb Against the Odds. During the month of October we’re donating $4 of every sale of all sizes of pink, Classic bottles to the Breast Cancer Fund in support of their work to eliminate environmental and other preventable causes of breast cancer.
Over the years, the climbers participating in the Climb Against the Odds have summited Mt. Aconcagua, Argentina in 1995; Alaska’s Mt. McKinley in 1998; Mt Fuji, Japan in 2000; Mt. Shasta, California in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009; and Mt. Rainier in 2005.
“Beyond the welcomed physical and mental challenges of being a first-time climber on Mt. Shasta, the climb will be an intensely personal journey for me,” said Wendy Aten, 37, of Oakland, Calif. a few months before she summited Mt. Shasta in 2009. “As a two-time breast cancer survivor, I have an insider’s perspective on cancer’s sweeping life changes that knock you to your foundation and force you to find strength within to get back up.”
At Klean Kanteen out staff includes cancer survivors, friends and family of cancer survivors, and people who have lost someone they loved to the disease. So we feel pretty strongly about eliminating the causes of cancer and stopping it before it starts. Supporting the Breast Cancer Fund is one of many efforts we make to work toward a healthy, sustainable future for people and the planet.
