Klean Kanteen® is proud and excited to support Adventure Ecology's Plastiki mission. The Plastiki is a 60-foot catamaran made entirely from recycled plastic materials that gets its flotation from 2-liter bottles.
On March 20, David de Rothschild and his intrepid crew departed from San Francisco Bay headed for Sydney Australia. The 11,000-mile journey is expected to take about three months and will retrace the voyage of Thor Heyerdahl, who traversed the Pacific in 1947 with the Kon-Tiki, a primitive raft made out of balsa logs.
During this epic ocean voyage, the Plastiki is sailing through some of our ocean's most remote and fragile ecosystems, witnessing and sharing the overwhelming effects of global warming and waste on ecosystems and our planet's inhabitants through a series of photographs, video updates and blog posts.
Supported by Adventure Ecology's network of global supporters and institutions, the Plastiki team hopes to raise awareness of the extreme challenges our oceans and their inhabitants face due to excessive plastic pollution, over-fishing and a rapidly changing climate.
The goal of Adventure Ecology's Plastiki is not only to encourage the world to reduce, reuse and recycle more of its natural resources, but to fundamentally re-think waste as a resource — one man's trash is another man's treasure, or in this case, boat.
This limited edition 27oz Klean Kanteen® Classic is our way of celebrating and supporting Plastiki on her voyage with funds and action. Their vessel works towards eliminating plastic waste from our planet, and so do ours.
