Inside Klean: Powered by Solar

August 2017 | Words and photos by Klean

The warm California sun defines our home town of Chico. Tucked up against the Northern Sierra Nevada foothills, beyond the reaching fingers of costal fog, Klean HQ sits in a climate zone ideally suited to solar power.

Just over a month ago, our friends at local solar contractor AES braved our sweltering roof to begin the installation of 216 solar panels.  Today we flip the switch to begin clean sun power generation.

These 216 high-efficiency panels will generate 141,323 kW of power. That is more than enough to run our entire operation including the in-house print shop where many of the creative designs you see gracing our Kanteens come to life.  The extra power generated by the solar array will be fed back into the energy grid resulting in a 107% energy offset.

As a certified B Corp, we are committed to meeting high standards of social and environmental transparency, accountability, and performance. This move to solar power is our latest effort to step back and look at our footprint as a company and lessen our impact on the world around us.

From our lights to our computers to our Sierra Nevada filled kegerator we are now powered by the clean California sun!
