For the past 10 years, Klean Kanteen has been taking action to reduce our emissions.
Our first step was to identify—and continue to evaluate—the sources of our emissions.
Here’s what we are doing about our emissions.
We identify and measure emissions from our business activities (Scope 1-3). This information is valuable for informing design, manufacturing and operational decisions, as well as raising staff awareness and engagement around emissions reductions.
In 2017, we installed 216 high-efficiency solar panels at our corporate headquarters. This array now supplies 100% of the building’s electricity. While our energy consumption at headquarters has increased, our carbon emissions have plummeted thanks to our clean, renewable energy source, and the beautiful and abundant California sunshine!
For over a decade, we have purchased carbon offsets and renewable energy credits for the GHG emissions we weren't yet able to eliminate. All of Klean’s reductions through offsetting meet the “big six” attributes of quality carbon credits: real, permanent, quantifiable, verifiable, enforceable, and additional.
1% For The Planet
We donate 1% of our gross sales through 1% for the Planet. To date, we have given away more than 3.1 million dollars in unrestricted funds to nonprofits working on climate change and related environmental issues.
Klean joined the We Are Still In commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement, when the current administration pulled out.
Klean Kanteen has completed Climate Neutral’s rigorous three-step process and is now 100% carbon neutral in the manufacture and delivery of our products worldwide.
Climate Neutral is a nonprofit organization working to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon world by recruiting companies to publicly measure, reduce and offset their carbon emissions. Klean Kanteen has completed this rigorous three-step process and is now 100% carbon neutral in the manufacture and delivery of our products worldwide.
